Master’s Degrees

Terminal M.A.

The Department occasionally admits students to pursue a terminal M.A. degree.

Students enrolled in the M.A. program must complete a minimum of twelve term courses, with an average of High Pass and at least two grades of Honors. Students in the Ph.D. program who leave the program prior to completion of the doctoral degree may be eligible to receive the terminal M.A. degree, if they have met the requirements for the Master’s (as noted above).

Automatic petition for the M.A. degree is not available.

No financial aid is available. 

M.Phil.

The M. Phil is awarded en route to the Ph.D.

The minimum general requirements are completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. except required teaching, prospectus, and dissertation.
