Maria Gutierrez received her doctoral degree from Yale in May 2018. She earned her B.A. degree in Art History at Pennsylvania State University in 2005. Following a an opportunity to participate in the Hierakonpolis Temple-Town Project in Egypt, she decided to pursue a career in Ancient Egyptian Art. This led her to the University of California at Berkeley, where she complete an M.A. in Ancient Egyptian Art and Archaeology. She is currently working on her dissertation prospectus. Her interests include Ancient Egyptian Art and Religion. More specifically, she is interested in the continuation of cultural and religious practices during the Greco-Roman period in Egypt. Other interests include private religion, magical practice, and temple ritual, as well as art and architecture from the New Kingdom up to the end of Egyptian civilization.
