DISCUSSION SESSIONS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS
Please join us for an informal discussion with Robert Dankoff (University of Chicago) and Gottfried Hagen (University of Michigan) on translating pre-modern Islamic texts. Dankoff and Hagen worked together on the recently published An Ottoman Cosmosgraphy (Brill, 2021), a translation of the Cihānnümā by Kātip Çelebi (d. 1657). During this discussion, students are invited to ask the guests about any aspect of translation, such as the experience of collaborative translation, the relationship of translation to scholarship, the logistics of getting academic translations published, among others.
