Hit the Road, Panah Panahi’s first film as director, tells a deeply melancholy, but simultaneously unexpectedly funny story. It focuses on a family heading to Iran’s northwestern border. As the others interact during their trip, the older son sits glum and brooding. As they travel across an arid desert landscape and then through the verdant valleys of the northwest, their destination and the purpose of their trip become clear.
