Bashu, a 10-year-old boy living in war-torn southern Iran during the Iran-Iraq War, loses his house and all his family in a bombing raid. Frightened, he sneaks aboard a cargo truck and falls asleep, not waking until the truck stops in a northern village. Na’i, a young mother finds Bashu hiding in her field. Bashu and Na’i struggle with miscommunication brought about by cultural and language barriers.
