Is It a Good Day? - Hemerologies in Ancient Mesopotamia

Monday, September 18, 5:00 pm

Location: SML 323, Sterling Memorial Library

Abstract: In ancient Mesopotamia, hemerologies are among the most common texts. They provide a positive or negative evaluation of a particular day, as well as information about which days are appropriate or inappropriate for performing a particular action. In this way, they provided guidance for social life. In my talk, I will present the corpus of Mesopotamian hemerologies and discuss their actual influence through a case study of the dates of extispicy rites.
