Graeco-Arabica Conference to commemorate the centennial of Franz Rosenthal

In April 2014 Professor Dimitri Gutas organized a Graeco-Arabica conference to commemorate the centennial of the late Professor Franz Rosenthal. The conference was hosted by Yale-NELC under the title Graeco-Arabica, Present State and Future Prospects of an Emerging Field.

This event brought to Yale participants from all over the world including Adam McCollum (Saint John’s University), Hidemi Takahashi (University of Tokyo), Hans Hinrich Biesterfeldt (Ruhr-Universitat Bochum), Gerhard Endress (Ruhr-Universitat Bochum), Andre Binggeli (Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des Textes), Alexander Treiger (Dalhousie University), Sabine Schmidtke (Freie Universitat Berlin, IAS, & Princeton), Peter Pormann (University of Manchester), and Kevin van Bladel (The Ohio State University).

As part of this event ​Franz Rosenthal’s ​book Man versus Society in Medieval Islam, edited by Professor Dimitri Gutas (Brill, 2014) was presented.
